N x reader - Love? Part 2

It was a few weeks after I met N and saw Ash. I was back in Pallet and at the lab. It was so nice here today. It was warm yet cool. The perfect summer day. I was sitting in the middle of the lab’s field and with a few Pokémon. I was brushing a little Vulpix who was one of newest friends.

I felt water hit me. I was confused and then looked up. Dark clouds were hanging overhead and I got them all back to the ‘barn’. It was close to a barn but a lot more comfortable and customized to be made for the Pokémon. I took Vulpix inside with me right before the rain hit. I stared at it from the glass doors. Vulpix cuddled down in my arms so I went to the couch. Vulpix was afraid of the rain. I wouldn’t blame her, she almost drowned when I met her ever since then she’s been afraid of water of any kind.

I sat down and held her close. “It’s okay.” I said petting her head.

“She’s scared?” Green’s voice asked. I looked up and sure enough saw him, Red, a man named Black and to my surprise N. Eevee and Pika came over to try and calm Vulpix down.

“Yeah. It’s raining and she’s terrified of water.” I said looking down at Vulpix. I petted her head softly as the boys sat down.

“Where are all the Pokémon?” Green asked.

“Yeah I heard Oak’s lab was filled with Pokémon.” Black said.

“In the shelters.” I said. “I made them for the Charmander evolution chain but then I kept adding to it so all Pokémon could be sheltered.”

“You made them all by yourself?!” Black asked in amazement.

“No but I did help a lot. Tracy and Gary helped a lot.” I said. “As well as other people in the town.” Many people in the town liked my ideas to help Pokémon and humans. This town was peaceful where no one was hurt. I won’t take credit for that happening because Pallet town was already like that.

“Everyone loves (Name)’s ideas. Right now you’re working on electric chambers aren’t you?” Green asked.

“Y-yes.” I blushed a little. “I saw them in Kalos so I’m talking to the man who made them.” N seemed hung on every word I said.

“So she’s basically making what N tried to in Plasma?” Black asked.

“Well when he thought he was doing good things, yes I suppose but with (Name) no one gets hurt.” Green said calmly. He was always like this. I was kind of happy because I didn’t really like to talk too much.  

I zoned out as I paid more attention to Vulpix. N was a part of Plasma? He must have been the first wave of it. They were nicer it seemed but still craving power and to do anything it took to get it. N had to have been the king because once they lost their king they got even more cruel and horrible.

“(Name)?” Green asked waving his hand in my face. I snapped back and looked up. “Lost in thought?”

I smiled. “Yeah sorry.”

“That’s not like you.” He said. “what were you thinking about?”

“Huh? Oh nothing,” I said knowing he’d know it was a lie.

“That’s a lie.” N said.  I looked over to him. How did he know? Green was understandable he was always with me with my research.

“How did you know?” I asked.

“Vulpix told me so.” He said. Vulpix? He noticed I was confused. “I can talk to Pokémon. I hear their voices.” Heard their voices? Talk to Pokémon? There were so many things I didn’t understand about N.

After that the boys talked. Red and N were quieter than Green and Black but that was normal. I zoned out again and watched TV with the Pokémon. This went on for awhile since Green didn’t want to leave to go the gym with his friends and I was still working. The only thing to get rid of the silence was a loud thunderclap. Vulpix jumped as I did as well.

I hid in N’s shoulder since he was sitting beside me and Vulpix hid in my stomach. I shook and I felt an arm go around me. I knew it was N’s but still I was confused as to why he did that? He didn’t seem the type to . . . yet here I was hiding in his shoulder because of a little scare. I looked up at him and he was looking at Green. I looked at Green without him knowing and he looked to be giving signals to N. Green motioned to pet something and then N petted my head. It did feel nice but at the same time it didn’t. Was this just a game?

I backed off. “I’m sorry.” I said and then got up to go to the kitchen. I sat down at the island and looked at Vulpix. She gave me a ‘what’s wrong’ look. “It wasn’t real. It’s not like he likes me or anything. It’s just Green trying to set me up again.” I sighed. Green and his girlfriend, Blue, have been trying to set me up since I told them I never had a boyfriend before.

“It’s not like that.”

“If it’s not then why was Green signaling him, Vulpix?” I asked. “Wait . . . you can’t talk.” I looked behind me and it was N. I felt like something fluttered in my stomach before I looked away.

“I don’t understand human relationships but Green and Black said I’m in love with you.” N said coming closer. He stood in front of the island so he was in front of me. “I don’t understand it but I felt a warm tingling feeling when I held you.”

“A warm feeling?” I asked knowing how he felt.

“Yes. I’ve never once felt anything like it before.” He said. He looked to Vulpix. “It’s called love?”

“You love me?” I asked looking up at him.

“I suppose so. Vulpix, Black and Green all said I am.” He said. “So do I want you to be my mate?”

“Mate?” I asked. “I’m not sure about that. Humans don’t pick their . . . mates until they get to know someone.”

“May I get to know you then?” he asked with a blush spreading across his face. He looked really cute like that.

“Sure.” I smiled. “I’d really like that.” I got up and went up to him and hugged him. It was rather awkward because he didn’t know what to do. I took his arms and put them so they were holding me. “Like this,” I said softly.

“What is this love thing? I still don’t understand it.” he said.

“You’ll see. In time.” I said looking up at him. I didn’t realize his face was so close to mine. I mean he was at least a foot taller than me, or it seemed so.

“I will?” he asked.

“Yep,” I smiled a little. Though we were both blushing pretty hard. I kissed his cheek softly. “We’ll find out together. So be patient.”

“I think I can do that.” He said and held me closer. I looked outside and the storm was lighting up. I blushed really hard when I looked down to Vulpix. She seemed pleased at something.

“You were in on it weren’t you?” I asked. She nodded. “Eevee?” she nodded again and I hid in N’s chest.
